The title of Cash Stax certainly sounds like a very non-thematic title for a slot game to have. And you’d be right in thinking so. Upon loading the game up, you’ll see that it’s really a classic slot game in the body of a modern day video slot. However, even with that being the case, you’ll find that it incorporates high quality graphics and gameplay. And despite it providing some fairly basic icons and imagery, there are one or two surprises in the game too. Let’s also not forget that it features a nice enough soundtrack too. So many slots tend to shy away in this area and stick to a generic arcade-sounding piece of music. However, one thing that can be said for Cash Stax, is that everything merges together in a good way. Therefore, you can guarantee a flowing, smooth slot game on the whole.

The general interface of the game is quite consistent with video slots, providing five reels and three rows. However, you’ll also see five separate sections above each of these reels, which we’ll get to a little bit later on. As well as this, Barcrest has made sure to add a total of 10 different pay lines into the game. The lines are also set in position, so you cannot alter them in any way. One thing that you do have the option to customise though, is the bet that you place per spin. This is changeable by using the plus and minus buttons at the top left of the screen. There, you can adjust the coin stake per line from its minimum of $0.01 up to $20. Therefore, a maximum overall wager of $400 per spin is possible. Not only that, but there’s the addition of the Big Bet button. This is something else that we’ll get to later on too.

Now, the visual side of the game is what makes it look more like a classic slot than anything else. While it does have five reels and three rows, its icons are not so modern. The first of its symbols is the cross, which is white in colour against a red background. Then, next in line comes the BAR symbol, and finally, the third standard symbol is the red number 7. Five of these on a winning pay line will multiply your bet by up to times 50! There’s also the addition of the circular nought icon as well. These in their standard form do not provide any kind of pay out. However, they do have the chance to become a golden nought, but that’s something we’ll move on to shortly.

It’s true that most games with such a design don’t really feature special rounds in them. However, Cash Stax begs to differ on this point. To begin with, you’ll find that there is a wild symbol on the reels. This comes in the form of the smirking jester, who looks quite creepy to be fair. As a wild, he will stand in for all other symbols on the reels in order to form a winning combination. The exceptions to this rule are the standard noughts and the golden noughts.

Now, when it comes to these golden noughts, this is where the sections above each reel also come into play. Every standard nought icon has the potential to turn into a golden nought. These golden noughts work as freespin rings. You’ll need to bring at least one of these golden noughts into view on each of the reels in order for the freespins round to begin. The amount of golden noughts that you spin will determine how many freespins you receive. So, there is the potential to cover the entire reel set in them and receive a total of 15 freespins altogether. Whenever the noughts turn into golden noughts, they collect in the sections above each reel. Therefore, you can easily see what you have already managed to collect.

Finally, there’s the addition of the Big Bet button. This provides you with the chance to spin five linked spins of the reels at the same wager value. It’s sort of like an Autoplay button. However, in Cash Stax, the minimum bet you can make when playing in Big Bet mode, stands at $20. All wins in this round are accumulative and are paid at the end of the last spin.

It’s not only Cash Stax which allows you to play the features within, but there’s another Barcrest game with similar options. Hercules High and Mighty from this developer also has a single bonus feature round that you can trigger. However, this one does have a layout of five reels and five rows, so it’s bigger than Cash Stax. Alternatively, why not try out Flame of Fortune from Barcrest. This has 10 pay lies in it and sticks to the five reel, three row layout. However, its freespin win multipliers only stretch out up to times 3, whereas Cash Stax allows up to times 5. If you’d prefer a game from a different developer, why not try 7s To Burn from Real Time? It may only have five different pay lines, but wilds can appear on all reels, just like in Cash Stax. Be aware that there isn’t a bonus round in this one though.
We have quite a good impression of things when it comes to Cash Stax. For a game with such little external appeal, it holds one or two treats for players to take advantage of. The freespins round is nicely done with the golden noughts and we always enjoy seeing a wild icon too. All in all, it’s a decent enough offering from Barcrest.

Cash Stax looks pretty simplistic in its appearance and is actually reminiscent of another Barcrest offering – Action Bank. It has a very similar grey backdrop and equally basic design, but the main similarity is in the symbols on the reels. Very arcade-like, they feature only a handful of different icons and not all of them even pay out. For starters, you have the emblematic red lucky 7 which is the highest value icon on the reels, and it’s followed by the BAR and X symbols. Then there are just the white and gold circles, which don’t offer payouts, although they have a special role nonetheless, but we’ll get to that in just a little bit.

This brings us to the game’s layout, which is fairly traditional featuring a grid of 5 reels and 3 rows. It comes with a total number of only 10 paylines, and you won’t have the flexibility of regulating them as the paylines are fixed. Then again, the betting range, which is typical for this developer, is pretty wide, allowing enough wiggle room for even the smallest of budgets. Stakes start at a minimum of only 10p per spin, and the maximum bet will set you back a whopping £500 per single spin.

Special Features

This wouldn’t be a real Barcrest slot game if it didn’t come with a Big Bet Mode. To put it simply, the Big Bet offers players the opportunity to increase their winning potential in exchange for a higher stake. In this particular case, you will be offered to play 5 consecutive spins for a fixed price, and for that you will benefit from 20 more paylines (total of 30) hence better winning opportunities.

Wild

The Wild symbol pictures a Jester, which is kind of a classic thing. It can appear anywhere on the reels at any point during gameplay, and moreover, it can also appear fully stacked on the reels and therefore increase your winning potential. The Wild can replace any of the other symbols, save only for the game’s Scatter. Oh, and like the Scatter, it doesn’t offer any payouts of its own.

Cash Stax Slot

The Free spins Feature is the only bonus feature that Cash Stax has in store for its players, and you can trigger it by landing gold ring symbols on the reels. More specifically, you need to land at least one of these symbols on every reel during a spin. You will receive a number of free spins corresponding to the number of Scatters. Hence, you can get a minimum of 5 free spins and a maximum of 25.

Furthermore, you also have the opportunity to re-trigger the feature by landing more of these Scatters. The principle is almost the same: for every Scatter that you land you will receive an extra free spin. In addition, by landing Scatters you will also be filling the multiplier meter by the side of the reels, and if you fill it up all way you can get a 5x multiplier too.

Verdict

Cash Stax is quite basic, both visually and as far as the setup goes. It’s devoid of any fancy graphics and sophisticated features, but what it does have is, somewhat surprisingly, sufficient for a decent gaming experience.
